Strength for the Storm . God's Comfort & Power ... Review Excerpt

Sharing excerpts from a book I reviewed in 2007.

Verdell Davis:

When a storm comes along if sufficient force to wipe out our livelihood, our health, our most treasured relationship, or perhaps our lifelong dreams, & we are left standing in the rubble of our shattered lives, we are in many ways reduced to infancy. So much has been lost & so much changed that we must essentially start over again. We must begin to walk before we can think about running or soaring. Indeed, we need help just to be able to stay on our feet.

What You Can Do:

Georgia's list of simple acts of kindness:

1. Send a card with encouraging words.

2. Prepare a tray of food for quick bites.

3. Offer to watch the children. (Angela's advice: watch who you allow to be over your child/children - make sure you know them)

4. Pick up some groceries.

5. Make phone calls.

6. Smile and wave.

7. Let a car go in front of you in a traffic tie-up.

8. Hold the door open for someone.

God's Almighty Power:

HE who wells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'HE is my refuge & my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. (Psalm/Tehillim 91:1-2)

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, & is, to come. (Revelation 4:8)

God's Comfort:

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)

Praise be to the God & father or our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion & the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. (II Corinthians 1:3-4)

Even though I walk through the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod & your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm/Tehillim 23:4)
